For many businesses, rising electricity costs are no longer a future concern. They are a daily operational challenge. For large commercial sites with high energy demand, finding a smarter way to manage those costs can make a significant difference to long term profitability.
That is exactly why commercial solar is becoming such a powerful investment.
At Lowdhams Leisure World in Gunthorpe, solar formed part of a wider strategy to improve energy efficiency, reduce reliance on grid electricity, and support long term business sustainability. With a large site and significant daily energy usage, the opportunity was clear. By investing in a tailored commercial solar PV system, the business could turn unused roof space into a valuable asset that delivers both financial and environmental returns.

A Tailored Commercial Solar Solution
Following a full assessment of the site, LJM Solutions designed a 124kW commercial solar installation tailored to the building layout, roof orientation, and energy usage profile.
The system included 200 high efficiency Aiko Energy 620W solar panels, a Solis 110kW three phase commercial inverter, and a Renusol mounting system designed for pitched commercial roofs. Once operational, the system is expected to generate around 90,644 kWh of renewable electricity every year. That means a significant
proportion of the site’s electricity can be generated on site, improving energy resilience and reducing dependence on imported power.
Why Commercial Solar Makes Financial Sense
One of the biggest reasons businesses are investing in solar for commercial buildings is simple. It gives them more control.
For Lowdhams Leisure World, the projected figures show just how valuable that control can be. The proposed system represents an investment of £80,214, with estimated electricity bill savings of £18,055 per year. Over the system lifetime, that rises to £689,676 in electricity bill savings, with net savings estimated at £609,462.
With a forecast payback period of just over four years, this case study shows how commercial solar panels can move from being seen as a sustainability choice to
being recognised as a smart commercial decision.

The Environmental Impact of Solar at Scale
The financial benefits are compelling, but the sustainability impact is just as powerful.
The Lowdhams system is expected to offset approximately 28 percent of the site’s electricity consumption and reduce carbon emissions by around 23 tonnes of CO₂ each year. Over the system lifetime, that is the equivalent of avoiding 689,397 km of car emissions, planting 4,432 trees, or preventing 493 long haul flights worth of emissions.
For businesses looking to strengthen their environmental credentials, renewable energy for business is no longer just about ticking a box. It is about making a measurable difference while improving operational performance.
More than Installation: Choosing the Right Solar Partner
A successful commercial solar project is about more than panels on a roof. It starts with understanding the client’s goals and delivering a system that works in practice, not just on paper.
At LJM Solutions, every project begins with a clear assessment of the site and a tailored recommendation based on energy use, building configuration, and long term objectives. For Lowdhams Leisure World, that meant transparent projections, clear communication, and support with the full process, including industry documentation, grid notifications, and certification requirements.
That ongoing support is a big part of what makes the difference. The system also benefits from strong warranties, performance monitoring, and guidance on future upgrades such as battery storage and EV charging, helping businesses plan ahead with confidence.
Solar at Scale for Modern Businesses
This project is a strong example of what solar at scale can achieve for commercial organisations. It shows how businesses can reduce costs, improve energy performance, and support wider sustainability goals through a well designed solar solution.
For organisations with large roofs, high electricity demand, and a need to think long term, commercial solar PV offers a practical route to stronger performance and greater resilience.
LJM Solutions is proud to support businesses with commercial solar installations that
are tailored, transparent, and built for long term value.
